SECTION C NEWS BROADCAST

Directions: In this section you will hear everything ONCE ONLY. Listen carefully and then answer the questions that follow. At the end of each news item, you will be given 10 seconds to answer the questions.

听力原文: The cancellation of the 16-day flight means that the crew and scientists on the ground are pursuing only their most important experiments in the few remaining hours left before the shuttle laboratory is closed. The US sapce agency NASA decided Sunday to bring the orbiter home 12 days early because of fears of weakened power generator could explode. The generator has been turned off, leaving the shuttle with only two thirds of its normal power supply. To conserve electricity for the experiments the crew is working in dimmer lighting than normal and has turned off all unessential equipment. NASA says the two remaining generators are sufficient for Tuesday's landing, but had nevertheless ordered the astronauts to study emergency procedures in case another fails. The shuttle team has expressed its disappointment at the curtailment of the science mission, and says enough data have already been collected in the materials, combustion and biological experiments to push science further ahead. The scientist' goal is to complete the experiments on a later shuttle flight. David Batlery, VOA news, Washington.

Why did NASA decide to bring the shuttle home earlier?

A.The laboratory was closed.

B.The generator was turned off.

C.The power generator might explode.

D.Electricity was going to run out.

According to Psychologists Susan O' Neil and Michael Bottome, children have very clear ideas about which musical instruments they should play. They found that despite the best efforts of teachers, these ideas have changed very little over the past decade. They interviewed 153 children, aged between 9 and 11, from schools in northwest England. They asked them to identify four musical instruments and then say which they would like to play most and which they would least like to play. They also asked the children for their views on whether boys or girls should not play any of the four instruments. The piano and violin were both ranked more favorably by girls than by boys, while boys preferred the drums and trumpets. There was a broad agreement between boys and girls on which instruments each sex should play and the reasons varied. And while almost half of all boys said they avoided certain instruments because they were too difficult to play. Only 15 percent of girls gave that as a reason. Earlier studies indicated that very young school children aged between 5 and 7, showed no bias in choosing musical instruments. But their tastes become more clear between the ages of 8 and 10. One survey of 78 teachers suggested that after that age, both boys and girls begin to restrict themselves to the so-called male or female instruments. How many children did Susan and Michael interview?A.150.B.151.C.152.D.153.

At the end of the interview you will be given 10 seconds to answer each of the following five questions. Now listen to the interview.听力原文:Interviewer: Well Charles, I must say that your shop is pretty remarkable. Um, it's basically a sweetshop, but you also do stationery and greeting cards and tobacco and fireworksShopkeeper: And newspapers.Interviewer: And newspapers. Ah. And apart from all that, you've got photocopiers...Shopkeeper: That's right.Interviewer: And a fax machine.Shopkeeper: Indeed.Interviewer: Yes. How did. I mean, why the photocopiers?Shopkeeper: Everything that's happened in my shop has almost happened by accident. But when I got into Clifton, I needed a photocopy one day and no one could tell me where to go. So it struck me that if I didn't know where to go, other people were in the same situation, so that's why I started it. And then I added on a facsimile machine because it seemed like a natural progression at the time. And all sorts of people use it.Interviewer: Yes, who, what sort of people do use it?Shopkeeper: Um, a lot of professional people —surveyors, engineers — particularly people who need to send plans. Because in the past you could send messages via telex, but a telex can't express a plan, whereas facsimile has that dimension, the added dimension.Interviewer: Right. And do people send these fax messages abroad, or is it just to this country?Shopkeeper: Well, it's surprising because when I started, I thought I'd be sending things to London and maybe Birmingham but, in fact, a high percentage of it is sent abroad, because it's immediate, it's very speedy. You can send a message and get an answer back very quickly.Interviewer: And how much would it cost, for example, if I wanted to send a fax to the United States?Shopkeeper: Well, a fax to the United States would cost you five pounds for a page. And when you think that in England by the Royal Mail, it would cost you twelve pounds to send a page by special delivery, it's actually a good value.Interviewer: OK. What about your hours? How long do you have to spend actually in the shop?Shopkeeper: Well, the shop is open from, essentially from eight in the morning until six at night, six days a week, and then a sort of fairly flexible morning on a Sunday. Um, and of those hours, I'm in it quite a lot.Interviewer: And how long have you actually had the shop?Shopkeeper: I started to have my shop in 1982, the 22nd of December, oh, sorry, the 22nd of November. It sticks in my brain.Interviewer: And did you enjoy it?Shopkeeper: Yes, overall I enjoy it. Running a business by yourself is jolly hard work and you never quite like every aspect all the time. 95% of the customers I love. Uh, 2% I really, you know, I'm not too bothered about. And 3% I positively hate.Interviewer: What, What's the problem with those? Are they people who stay around and talk to you when you're busy or complain or what?Shopkeeper: Um, it's bard to categorize really. I find people who are just totally rude, urn, unnecessary, and I don't really need their custom. And I suppose they form. the volume of the people that I don't like. But it's a very, very, very small percentage.Interviewer: But is there a danger that shops like yours will disappear, more and more?Shopkeeper" I think there's a very, very great danger that the majority of them will disappear.Interviewer: Why's that?Shopkeeper: Simply because costs of running a shop have just become very, very high. To give you some example, in the time that I've been there, my rent has quadrupled, the local property tax have doubled, other costs have gone up proportionately. And at the end of the day it is a little bit hard to try to keep uA.cigarettesB.exercise booksC.photocopiersD.chocolates

    答案:
    解析:
This bar chart shows mobilephone subscriptions in developing countries and developed countries, measured in billions, for the years 2000 to 2008.The mobilephone subscriptions in both developing countries and developed countries enjoyed increase in different speed over time.In this chart, the mobilephone subscription in developed countries maintained a continual and steady increase from 2000 to 2007 and remained constant in 2008.Meanwhile,the mobilephone subscription in developing countries have undergone a slow increase from 2000 to 2004 and then saw a great surge from 2005 to 2007.This trend increased to a peak about 4 billion in 2008.Based on different national situations, the reasons leading to this trend can be summarized into two points.First, the developed countries have a limited number of population, which decides that the demand for mobilephone service is also limited and will soon be saturated.Second,as for the developing countries,it has a large population and also a large demand for mobilephone service. And as the mobilephone becomes more available and more affordable, there is an increasing number of people buying their mobilephones. In my view, this trend that the number of mobilephone subscription continues to grow in developing countries will be constant for a while in the future. And this trend would also benefit most of the mobile users both in the developing countries and developed countries.

    问答题
Practice 1Directions: In this part of the test, you will answer three questions based on the information provided. You will have 30 seconds to read the information before the questions begin. For each question, begin responding immediately after you hear a beep. No additional preparation time is provided. You will have 15 seconds to respond to Questions 1 and 2 and 30 seconds to respond to Question 3.Practice 1 Question 1: How much are tickets? Question 2: I heard Time Against Time was coming out. Is it playing there yet? Question 3: I might not be able to go to the theater until 7:30. Which movies are playing at around that time?

正确答案: 1: It’s eight dollars and ninety-five cents for adult tickets. And for kids, it’s five dollars and ninety-five cents.
或:An adult ticket is eight ninety-five and a ticket for a child is five ninety-five.
    解 析:解答本类题型最重要的是从屏幕显示的文件或日程表中快速找到问题对应的部分从而作答。本题问How much…询问的是价格,所以在日程表下面找到票价作答。记住dollar和cent后面要加复数-s,dollar和cent之间要用and连接。
2:Yes, it is playing in the theater, and it plays at several different times.
或:Yes, it is being shown at the theater at present.
3:Well, you have many choices. At seven forty, Geneva is playing and five minutes later, Whispers in the Silence is playing. And a little bit later, at ten to eight, Rabbit Stew is going to start.
或:At seven forty we’re showing Geneva, and Whispers in the Silence will start five minutes later. You could also see Rabbit Stew at seven fifty.
    解 析:本题要求考生综合所给的事件或信息进行说明。以上问题询问某个特定时间段有些什么电影,所以要恰当使用时间状语从句回答。说时间时,除了答案中所用的方法外,还可使用以下这种方法。7:40 twenty to eight;7:45 quarter to eight;7:50 ten to eight。

听力原文: [26] Americans who remember "the good old days" are not alone in complaining about the educational System in this country. Immigrants complain, too. Lately a German friend was filled with anger when he learned that the first mathematics test given to his son as a college freshman included multiplication and division. Japanese businessmen in Los Angeles send their children to private schools staffed by teachers imported from Japan who teach mathematics at more advanced level.

[27] But I wonder: If American education is so poor, why is it that this is still the country of innovation? When I was 12 in Indonesia, I had to memorize the name of all the world's major cities. At the same age, my son, who was brought up a Californian, thought that Buenos Aires was Spanish for good food. However, unlike children of his age in Asia and Europe, my son had studied creative geography. When he was only 6, he drew a map of the route that he traveled to get to school, including the streets, the traffic signs and the houses that he passed. Dissatisfied American parents forget that in this country their children are able to experiment freely with ideas; without this they will not be able to think or to believe in themselves. Critics of American education cannot grasp one thing: freedom. [28] America, I think, is the only country that extends even to children the license to freely speak, write and be creative. Our public education is not perfect, but it is better than any other.

    (27)

    A.The Japanese mathematic teachers.

B.Both the speaker and his German friend.

    C.Both Americans and immigrants.

D.The son of the speaker's German friend.

  • 第14题:

You are the network administrator for Ezonexam.

You plan to upgrade 550 computers from Windows 95 to Windows 2000 Professional. You create an Unattend.txt file by using Setup Manager. You copy the file to the network share that will be used to install Windows 2000 Professional. You start the installation on a test computer by using a network shared folder and an answer file. When the installation is complete, you realize that the upgraded computers are not utilizing their entire hard disks.

You want to ensure that the unattended installation utilizes the entire hard drive on all computers.

What should you do? (Each correct answer presents part of the solution. Choose two)

A.Add an [Unattended] section to Unattend.txt, and set the File System parameter to Convert NTFS.

B.Rename Unattend.txt to Cmdlines.txt and copy it to the \$OEM$ subdirectory.

C.Add a [GUIRunOnce] section to answer file, and add an entry for the Unattend.txt file.

D.Create a \$OEM$\S$ folder on the hard disk of the test computer, and copy Unattend.txt to the folder.

E.Add an [Unattended] section to Unattend.txt, and set the Extend OEM Partition to 1.

F.Add an [Unattended] section to Unattend.txt, and set the Extend OEM Partition parameter to 999.

    正确答案:AE
A,E 解析:Explanation: When you run Setup in unattended mode on a computer with multiple hard disks or partitions, specify the exact location of the destination hard drive or partition where you are installing. Use the Winnt /t or Winnt32/tempdrive switch to specify the destination. If you use the CD Boot method, add AutoPartition = 1 to the [Data] section of the Winnt.sif file to specify the location. With CD Boot, Setup installs to the first logical partition that it finds with sufficient disk space.

If you want to ensure that the unattended installation makes use of the entire hard drive on all the computers, you should add an answer file section to the Unattend.txt and set the File System parameter to convertNTFS as well as set the ExtendOEMPArtition to 1.

    Incorrect answers:
B: You do not need to rename the Unattend.txt and copy it to the \$OEM$ subdirectory.

C: This will run a program after the installation. This is not required.

D: There is no need to create a \$OEM$\S$ folder. This will not ensure that the unattended installation uses the entire hard drive on all the computers.

F: The Extends OEM Partition should be set to 1 and not 999 in conjunction with setting the File System parameter to Convert NTFS.
