1.The sea looks very pretty when the sun is shining on it. It can be very rough when there is a strong wind. The sea is very big. It covers three quarters of the globe! The sea is also very deep in some places. There is one spot near the Philippines , where the sea is about 11 kilometers deep. The highest mountain in the world is about 9 kilometers high. If that mountain was put in the sea at that place, there would still be 3 kilometers of water above it! What a deep place! In most parts of the sea, there are plenty of fishes and plants. Some live near the top of the sea. Others live deep down. There are millions of tiny living things that float in the sea. Many fish live by eating them. The sea can be very cold. When the diver goes downwards, the sea becomes colder and colder. When the diver goes deeper, the water exerts greater pressure.1、There is one spot near the Philippines, where the sea is as deep as ( ).A、13 kilometersB、 9 kilometersC、 2 kilometersD、 11 kilometers2、There are millions of tiny living things that float in the sea, and( ).A、they live by eating fishB、they live by eating plantsC、they are good food for many fishD、they live by eating worms3、Which of the following statements is true? 2.共用题干 第一篇How Animals Keep WarmMan has invented ways to keep warm, but how do animals defend themselves? They cannot reason in the sense that man can,but nature has taken care of the animal kingdom by providing animals with special instincts(本能).One of these instincts is known as hibernation(冬眠)." Sleeping like a dormouse(棒睡鼠)"is not only a common saying but is a reality. When winter comes, the dormouse and other hibernating animals have reached a well-nourished state. They eat very well in warmer days laying down fat in the tissues of their bodies and during hibernation this keeps them alive.Safe in their nests,or burrows(地洞),they sleep soundly until the warmth of spring arrives.Bats, tortoises, snakes, frogs, even insects like butterflies, hibernate more or less completely. Some, like the squirrels(松鼠),sleep during coldest weather but are roused(弄醒)by a warm spell(暖流).During hibernation, the temperature of an animal's body drops drastically.Breathing and heart-beats almost cease.Another instinctive method of avoiding intense cold is to escape by means of migration. Wild swans, seagulls, swallows and cuckoos are a few of the very many kinds of birds which fly thousands of miles, twice a year,to avoid cold. Many animals, especially those of the Arctic regions, have summer and winter quarters. The Arctic deer of North America, as well as the reindeer(驯鹿)of Europe, move southward towards the forests when winter approaches. They return to the northern area when the warmth of spring begins to be sensed. There are animals which do not attempt to leave at the first sign of winter cold.Their instinctive means of defense is to dig out a deep burrow, made it soft and warm by padding (填塞)out with straw, leaves, moss and fur. In it they have a"secret place"containing food which they hope will last the winter through!Animals which fall into this class include the Arctic fox,the rabbit and the little field-mouse.How does the dormouse defend itself against cold in winter?A:It moves about to keep warm.B:It grows thicker fur.C:It stores fat before hibernation.D:It goes to warmer areas.

Here is how he described one of his experiments. In June 1752, I wanted to show that lightning and electricity are the same. Having realized that I could use a kite to attract lightning, I decided to do an experiment. I built a strong kite and waited for bad weather. When the first thunderstorm came, I took my condenser to a shed in the fields where I could do my experiment. My son helped me fly the kite. The kite flew high in the rainy sky, but nothing happened. I was beginning to think that the experiment would not work. Just then, I saw some of the hairs on the string stand up. The string was getting charged!I brought my finger close to the key and felt a light but very clear electric shock. Others followed even before the whole string was wet, and I was able to collect and store a great deal of electricity in the condenser. This experiment proves that lightning and electricity are the same. To do the experiment you need four things, a kite, a key, some really bad weather and a condenser, to store electricity. Most kites are made of paper, but a kite made of silk will not tear so soon in weather with rain and strong winds. Build the flame of the kite by making a small cross of two pieces of light wood. The pieces should be just long enough to reach the corners of the handkerchief. Tie the corners of the handkerchief to the points of the cross, and you will have a nice strong kite. Add a tail to the frame and tie a long string to the cross so you can control the kite. The next three steps are very important. First, fix a very sharp piece of metal, pointing a foot or more above the frame to the top of the longer stick of the cross. Second, fasten a key to the end of the long string. Third, tie a silk ribbon to the string, just above the key. This ribbon, which must not get wet, will protect you from the electricity. Fly the kite when a thunderstorm appears to be coming on. Stand inside a door, or under some cover, so that the silk ribbon does not get wet. Take care that the string does not touch the wall or the door. When a thundercloud comes over the kite, the sharp piece of metal will pull the electricity from the cloud. The kite and the string will become charged. When the kite and the string are wet from the rain, they will conduct the electricity very well. You can collect and store the electricity in the condenser and use it for other experiments.
